Fifth Avenue at Central Park South on the concourse leve
"You're gonna Instragram yourself stupid," said Georgina, as we rode the escalator down to The Plaza Food Hall, where she was treating me to a belated birthday lunch. This gourmet wonderland on the concourse level of the storied Plaza Hotel reminds me so much of a condensed version of the grand food halls I've visited in London and Tokyo. (Think: Very fancy cafeteria.)
We were lead to our seats and given a big menu containing all of the offerings from the different stations: sushi bar, grill, seafood, pasta, dumplings, etc. The variety is great for when you're not sure what you're in the mood for. You could theoretically have sushi and sliders, if you wanted! We tried the adorable mini lamb gyros from the grill and a hearty plate of bucatini.
There's also a cheese and charcuterie section, along with little jars of jams and pickles, cookies, teas and other products for purchase. And you need not sit down for a meal if you don't have the time, as there are also ready-made sandwiches, salads, and sushi rolls to grab on the go.
On our way out, we gazed at the white marble display case of Lady M confections. All of the cakes were sliced so cleanly and precisely, revealing their artfully layered interiors. It was Instagram-worthy. Mmm. Next time. There will be a next time.
